Alienware Aurora m9700 - Gaming Notebook Is a Monster

I can say this Alienware’s latest gaming notebook is a monster! The Aurora ALX is powered by two nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GS graphics modules in SLI configuration, which allow for resolutions of up to 1920 x 1200 on its 17 inch screen. The laptop is also powered by a dual-core 2.4GHz AMD Turion 64 Mobile ML44 processor, 2GB of DDR2-667 memory, 200GB HDD, and a DVD Super-Multi drive. Laptop Magazine has a deep review of this “monster” laptop. Here is the verdict.

If you’re looking for desktop-PC-caliber gaming performance and multimedia ability in a laptop-sized package, the m9700 is a solid choice. However, we’d wait for the dual-core processor and a high-definition DVD drive option before shelling out more than four grand.

Alienware M11x

Fast Facts

Underneath the Alienware's dinky, rubberised lid is Core i5 processor and Nvidia's Optimus graphics tech, which auto-switches between high power and battery saving mode.

Mighty or Mousey?

Games fly on the small scree, which is brightly coloured and sharp, if a little too reflective. Ideally, you should be able to hook it up to an external monitor to game at home, but it struggles at higher resolutions. The illuminated and responsive keyboard is the best in this test, though.

Stuff Says

Very well built, this is the smallest power laptop you're likely to find.
